Family Farce - Brown condemns Fielding

Family First Senator Steve Fielding's meeting with the Indonesian Ambassador today is naïve and an irresponsible surrender of his obligation to the Australian voters, Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.

"He should rename his party Jakarta First," Senator Brown said.

"Senator Fielding missed a series of important Senate votes, including on proposed inquiries into the petrol and oil crisis, to ask a foreign embassy to help him work out Australian domestic policy."

"This one per cent Senator has been 100% stupid," said Senator Brown.

"He has put Jakarta up-front in determining the Senate outcome on the migration bill next week. If he votes for the bill, 20 million Australians will assume Jakarta got its way by courting Family First. And a million West Papuans and their families will also feel abandoned by this silly Senator," Senator Brown said.
