No need to rush Guardian House demolition
Greens MLA Dr Deb Foskey said today it was inappropriate to rush the demolition of Guardian House in Woden.
Over the last few days a fence has been placed around the site pending demolition.
"I support the call of the Woden Valley Community Council for a three month extension to the Development Application. Extra time is needed so that a solution can be found that meets every-one interests" Dr Foskey said.
"It seems all the parties agree on the advantages of a land swap but have yet to finalise exactly how. Given this agreement it is inappropriate to rush the demolition and instead the Government should help work out an innovative solution that is in every-ones interest."
"Woden is less well served than other town centres in terms of community facilities and there is a desperate need for arts and other community facilities."
"Guardian House is a Woden icon and could be used as a community centre and other areas could be used for office buildings. The various interests do not need to be exclusive" Dr Foskey said.
