MEDIA RELEASE

Government squibs on Macquarie Fields Inquiry

The Carr government is avoiding scrutiny of the Macquarie Fields riots
by deferring the Upper House Inquiry Greens MP and Justice spokesperson
Lee Rhiannon said today.

After committing to an inquiry into the Macquarie Fields riots and
services in the area the government today has combined with conservative
MP's to defer this critical inquiry until the two police inquiries
into the riots are complete, said Lee Rhiannon today.

There is no set date when this inquiry will be held.

Delaying this Inquiry is designed to take the heat off the government.

An inquiry into the recent riots is needed now. Putting it off is just
a way for the government to avoid scrutiny.

The government is marking its 10th anniversary with another broken
promise, in circumstances where the failure of the Carr Government in
this State is obvious, Lee Rhiannon said.
