Cross City Tunnel fuels car addiction
The Cross City Tunnel offers no long-term transport benefits to Sydney commuters and residents, Greens MP and roads spokesperson Lee Rhiannon said today
"The NSW Government is fuelling a car addiction in this state. Every new motorway sends a message that car travel is the best option," Ms Rhiannon said.
"The Cross City Tunnel, like other city motorways, is not a solution to Sydney's transport needs. It will aggravate Sydney's transport problems by increasing congestion and commuter rat runs in East Sydney.
"Premier Iemma needs to get serious about boosting the prominence of public transport in Sydney, by increasing train services and abandoning his government's love affair with motorways.
"The Greens believe that the future of Sydney's transport needs are based on an integrated and expanded world class public transport system that allows people to leave their car at home.
"Premier Iemma must reverse the car love affair of his predecessor, " Ms Rhiannon said.
