Scully urged to guarantee no PCYC closures 

 Greens MP and youth spokesperson Lee Rhiannon has called on Police Minister Carl Scully to give a guarantee that no Police and Community Youth Clubs (PCYC) will be closed. The Greens have received information that the Bidwell PCYC will close shortly and that other closures will follow. 

It would be a backward step to close PCYCs because they play an important role in the community by improving relationships between police and young people.

Ms Rhiannon said. "Minister Scully should guarantee the future of all PCYCs and be working to boost resources for these centres so they are maintained at a high standard and not allowed to run down through neglect.  

"There is growing community concern that centres are being starved of repairs and then closed for safety reasons. 

"In the absence of dedicated after school care for young people, many school students rely upon PCYCs to avoid boredom and promote fitness.  

"PCYCs are an essential element of modern policing, as they work with rather than against the community."Ms Rhiannon said.
