Iemma's leadership test - say No to Costa's push to be Treasurer

Greens MP Lee Rhiannon has called on the new Premier Morris Iemma to resist Michael Costa's push to be Treasurer.

"After his track record as the Minister for Transport Mr Costa in the key portfolio of Treasurer would be a disaster for NSW," Ms Rhiannon said.

"He has shown contempt for public opinion and is obsessed with privatisation.

"Portfolio allocation will be the first test for Mr Iemma's leadership. The new Premier has a responsibility to put the people of NSW before any factional loyalties to Mr Costa. 

"I have observed Mr Costa's actions at close quarters in the NSW Upper House. Not only does he specialise in insulting the Greens MPs and anyone who stands up to him, but also he is frequently rude to his fellow Labor MPs.

"After 10 years of this Labor government running down public infrastructure to reduce the state's deficit we cannot afford to have Mr Costa in control of Treasury. 

"Mr Costa certainly does not deserve a promotion in the cabinet reshuffle. 

"His track record as Minister has damaged this Labor government," Ms Rhiannon said.
