LABOR'S AIRPORT DUPLICITY

Revelations that the NSW Planning Minister sent an eight-page report on
Wells Creek near Sutton Forest compiled at his request to his Federal
Labor colleagues are in stark contrast to Premier Bob Carr's 2 February
2004 statement that information had been provided about the general
region but not specific sites, Cunningham MP Michael Organ said today.

"It's clear from today's Sydney Morning Herald that the site has been
examined in some detail for its suitability as a second Sydney airport
site, despite reported assertions from Craig Knowles' office that the
report is just geotechnical information", Mr. Organ said.

"The report apparently addresses transport links, water quality,
environmental issues, and noise impacts among other matters."

"The Premier needs to come clean on his government's dealing over a site
for a second Sydney airport and stop the pretence that it's solely a
Federal issue", Mr. Organ said.

"Wells Creek is just as silly an option as Wilton; it's a totally
inappropriate site for such a development."
