Howard should end abuse of Australians at Guantanamo Bay

Brown seeks visit to jail next week

The separate but compelling reports of abuse by US jailers of both
Australian prisoners Mamdouh Habib and David Hicks demand Prime
Ministerial intervention, Greens Senator Bob Brown said today.

"The reports of beatings, prolonged psychological deprivation, and
enchainment stalk this government," Senator Brown said.

"These are two Australians who have never been charged and who on the
government's account would not be convicted by an Australian court.

"I am pursuing the government to enable me to visit Guantanamo Bay next
week to speak with Hicks and Habib," Senator Brown said.
