ORGAN CONGRATULATES LOCAL FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR

Cunningham MP Michael Organ has congratulated Professor Tony Hulbert
from the University of Wollongong's Biological Sciences Department on
the award of a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States.

"Fulbright Scholarships are highly prestigious and much sought-after
awards, and I was pleased to be able to join Tony for the formal
presentation at a dinner in the University of Sydney's MacLaurin Hall
last night", Mr. Organ said.

"He is one of just 16 Australians to gain the coveted scholarship in
2004 and that's a testament to the work he has been doing in comparative
physiology at the University of Wollongong since 1975."

"Tony has been pushing the barriers in research into ageing, and the
scholarship will allow him to continue researching why different species
of animals have specific and different maximum life spans by looking at
the relationship between membrane fatty acids and ageing and obesity." 

"His Fulbright Scholarship is further recognition of the leading-edge
work being undertaken at our local university", Mr. Organ said.
