For once the future is not for sale

Media Release: 04 May 04

Greens NSW Senate Candidate Dr John Kaye today supported the call from the
Services First organisation for improved services rather than tax cuts.

Dr Kaye said: "For too long, essential services to Australian communities
and households have been periodically ransacked to pay for election-winning
tax cuts.

"Opinion polls are consistently showing that the vast majority of voters
value services such as public education, transport and health more than
they want tax cuts.

"The poll-driven political parties are off the hook. They do not need to
promise less tax cuts to win the election.

"For the first time in three decades, Australia has the opportunity to go
into a pre-election budget without the distortion of a major tax auction.

"The Greens are calling on the Opposition and the Government to join with
us and commit to what the Australian voters really want: funding for public
transport that works, an optimistic future for public education and a
health system that they can trust," Dr Kaye said.
