Carr's special law for filmmakers already exists
Introducing special legislation to please filmmakers is a waste of time and taxpayers' money as laws already exist to allow filming in national parks, Greens MLC Ian Cohen said today.
"Bob Carr has a long history of bending over backwards to help specific industries bypass the law but today the Premier has gone further to waste time and taxpayers' money by recreating laws that already exist to allow filming in national parks.
"The Premier is creating an illusion to satisfy his Hollywood fantasy. But, the fact is that there are four million hectares of national parks outside of wilderness areas in NSW where commercial filming is already allowed under the National Parks and Wildlife Act.
"The most important issue in this debate, since the whole Stealth movie controversy began, has been the government illegally issuing an approval to film in a wilderness area.
"By leaving wilderness areas out of his announcement today, the Premier has had to concede that commercial filming in wilderness areas is not legal."
