MEDIA RELEASE

Carr can save ADI site for future generations
NSW Premier Bob Carr can save the ADI site at St Marys and potentially
save the federal government millions of dollars in compensation, Greens
Senator Bob Brown said today.
"If the federal government stops the sale of the site to Lend Lease,
they could potentially be liable for millions of dollars in
compensation," Senator Brown said.
"But if the NSW Government rezones the land and refuses development
consent, there is no compensation payable.
"So far, Premier Carr has only said he will save the site if the federal
government does the same. The fact is that the NSW Government can save
the site without financial penalty.
"The Premier should inform Lend Lease that consent will not be granted.
"Lend Lease donated $281, 536 to the NSW ALP between 1998 and 2003. Bob
Carr should make it clear to the public that he is putting the interests
of the people of NSW above the interests of donors to the ALP.
"In the lead up to the federal election, Greens preferences will be
crucial in a number of marginal seats in western Sydney, where residents
are extremely angry at the sale of the land.
"The Greens are calling on both the NSW and the federal governments to
save this natural wonderland and act in the best interests of the
community," Senator Brown said.
There will be a rally to save the ADI site outside the NSW Parliament at
12 noon on May 13.
