Lee Rhiannon MLC (NSW) The Greens
Media Release 19/12/00
Woodlawn workers deserve straight answers
Representatives of The Greens met at State Parliament in Sydney yesterday (December 18) with former employees of the Woodlawn mine near Goulburn.
Greens MLC Lee Rhiannon said after the meeting: "We were pleased to meet with these workers and hear their views. We found there was considerable common ground between us.
"The Greens have consistently pressed for these employees to receive their full entitlements.
"We explained why we opposed the Woodlawn waste dump on environmental grounds," says Ms Rhiannon, "but we also agreed with the workers that they had been given a rough spin by the government and that we need more than ever to work together on this issue.
"We're seeking an urgent meeting between the employees, ourselves and the Minister for Environment and Planning, Dr Refshauge.
"These workers deserve to be told the truth," says The Greens MP - "not only about the entitlements but about all aspects of the project's future."
