Yabsley puts Turnbull in hot seat on political donation reform

Political donation reform is shaping up as the latest test of the Prime Minister's leadership following the statement from senior NSW Liberal Michael Yabsley that the current system should be dismantled, Greens democracy spokesperson Senator Lee Rhiannon said.

"Malcolm Turnbull is in the hot set on political donations," Senator Rhiannon said.

"When a close colleague of the PM and a senior Liberal admits he knew illegal donations from property developers had been made through the Free Enterprise Foundation the Prime Minister can no longer ignore the issue.

"Mr Yabsley's about turn on political donations is very significant and would be putting the PM under pressure on the need for electoral funding reform.

"As a former Liberal NSW MP and former Liberal Party treasurer and founder of the Millennium Forum Mr Yabsley is well acquainted with spruiking the Liberal Party to big donors and pulling in sizeable donations.
