Greens call on other companies to follow Ferrovial and dump offshore detention

The Australian Greens have called on all other companies that are profiting from the Australian Government’s detention camps on Manus Island and Nauru to get out of offshore detention.

“Making millions from the suffering of men, women and children on Manus Island and Nauru is clearly unsustainable,” the Greens’ immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“Now that Ferrovial and Westpac Bank have seen the writing on the wall and withdrawn their businesses from Nauru and Manus Island, I call on all other companies still there to do the same.

“Companies like Wilson Security, Bendigo Bank and International SOS have had their snouts in the offshore detention trough for way too long.

“With the Manus Island camp closing and the government’s main contractor pulling out of Nauru, the shameful age of offshore detention is finally drawing to a close.

“These camps have killed three people while destroying the lives of thousands of others, including children, and the time for their closure has well and truly come.”
