National TAFE Day highlights need
for Education Funding Reform<http://nsw.greens.org.au/news/nsw/national-tafe-day-highlights-need-urgent-education-funding-reform>
Greens Higher Education spokesperson, Tammy Franks MLC will today stand with TAFE teachers, students and the Australian Education Union to show support for the TAFE. The TAFE sector is facing funding cuts and increases in student fees and debts, while taxpayer dollars are going to shonky private operators, TAFE campuses are closing, and jobs are being lost in our vocational, education and training sector.

"The Greens warned the State Labor Government about the impact of the Skills for All scheme in 2012. We opposed it on the grounds that it would have detrimental impact on students and the quality of courses.
"Sadly, since the introduction of 'market contestability' under this Labor Government, we've seen millions of dollars of public money siphoned into shonky training providers, with wide-spread reports of substandard training which is leaving students in the lurch and damaging the reputation of VET in SA.
"The failed market contestability model must be abandoned and we must reinstate TAFE as the primary public provider of vocational education and training in South Australia.
"No more money to 'for profit providers' Ms Franks concluded.
