WHITE BAY POWER STATION DECISION A STEP FORWARD

"The decision not to accept any of the proposals to develop the White Bay Power Station is a step forward in ensuring a positive outcome for the renewal of the ten hectares of public harbourside land at White Bay," said Mr Parker

"The fact that even the overly generous criteria for development established by UrbanGrowth NSW couldn't be met shows just how voracious and out of touch the development industry is."

"After the disastrous development outcomes at Barangaroo even this government realized the public simply would not accept another massive over development on public harbourside land.

This decision demonstrates that active communities can successfully push back on the worst excesses of developers.

It is a win for all of the residents, experts and community organizations who have been working hard to protect heritage and our public harbourside land.

The redevelopment of the White Bay Power Station is a once in a generation opportunity to deliver an innovative employment precinct and not just more multi-million dollar waterfront apartments.

I look forward to working with UrbanGrowth NSW and the wider Sydney community to secure an appropriate redevelopment of the site that respects heritage, delivers employment and ensures integrated transport links."
