MEDIA RELEASE
4 JUNE 2016
Labor's promise for blood tests welcome
Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon has commented on Labor’s announcement of their party’s policy on PFOS and PFOA contamination.
“While it is good news that Labor has reversed its previous position and have agreed to fund voluntary blood tests for residents affected by the toxic contamination from RAAF sites, they should also offer compensation.
“Blood tests should not only be offered to affected residents, but also to all workers at affected RAAF bases, including Defence’s own staff and contractors.
“It is a massive turnaround from what we have seen from both major parties so far and I know the residents will hold Labor to their promise, if they are elected.
“However, both Labor and the Coalition continue to avoid the question of contamination.
“If elected Labor should also proactively negotiate with all residents and workers who have been impacted by the contamination crisis to provide compensation for loss of income, severely reduced property value and business depreciation.
Senator Lee Rhiannon will visit Williamtown this Friday 10 June<x-apple-data-detectors://3> to meet with affected residents and call for a coordinated government response to the crisis.
