Abbott must get out of his sand-pit and deliver transport options that work
The Abbott government has exposed its recklessness in infrastructure planning, say the Australian Greens.
"Tony Abbott's roads addiction is driving us backwards," said the Greens spokesperson for Transport and Infrastructure Senator Janet Rice.
"The Prime Minister has this morning reaffirmed the glaring hole in his government's infrastructure and transport agenda: he continues to ignore public transport.
"Mr Abbott claims he wants to make it easier for people to get to work and easier for freight to be delivered, but his plan will just encourage more cars onto our roads and increase congestion in our cities.
"Ploughing billions into Melbourne's East West toll road, Sydney's WestConnex and Perth's Roe 8 is simply wasting money that is desperately needed to fix our urban and regional rail system.
"In my home state of Victoria, poll after poll shows that people want better public transport. The community is desperate for real investment to fix our broken public transport in Melbourne and in our regional areas.
"Building smart, sustainable and connected infrastructure doesn't just mean playing with cranes and bulldozers like Australia is his own personal sand-pit."
