Government Must Stop Logging Trials in Protected Areas; Follow Victorian Government Move

Greens NSW MP and Spokesperson for the Environment, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, has called on the NSW Government to stop proposed logging trials in the River Red Gum Parks in the Riverina. The NSW Government also has a proposal for logging in the Brigalow and Nandewar State Conservation Areas near Moree and Dubbo.

Dr Faruqi said:
"The NSW Government must cancel the proposed logging trial in parks along the Victoria border as well as stop plans to conduct logging in the Brigalow and Nandewar State Conservation Areas.

"The Victorian Government has virtually admitted that this whole trial was not appropriate so now is time for the NSW Government to come clean and cancel its plans to let loggers into parks under the guise of ecology.

"For this government, ecological thinning is just a code word for letting loose logging into our parks.

"This is a government to which conservation and protection of native wildlife and habitat increasingly means nothing. It is a government that looks at ecologically preserved areas as only valuable as exploitable resources, not for their intrinsic value" she concluded.
