Greens MP Joins Community at St Peters Forum Against WestConnex

Greens NSW MP and Roads & Transport Spokesperson, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC yesterday joined a community meeting of the WestConnex Action Group (St Peters, Sydenham, Tempe) and discussed the Greens plan to stop WestConnex and divert money into public transport solutions. The local community are deeply concerned about the impact of smoke stacks, tunnelling and increased congestion on local roads from WestConnex.

Dr Faruqi said:

"Last night's community forum of over one hundred people was packed with residents worried about the impacts of the WestConnex toll road on their community and environment.

"Everywhere WestConnex goes, from Ashfield to Haberfield to St Peters the community is uniting in opposition to wasted billions, increased congestion on local roads and unfiltered smoke stacks.

""WestConnex is conducting test drilling at 18 different sites, from local roads to parks to wetlands in Rockdale. The community is telling me that they received no notice or information from the WestConnex delivery authority, further illustrating the government's lack of transparency and engagement with communities.

"Residents living in the Inner West will suffer the same fate as those around the M4, as the M5 tunnel will just funnel more traffic onto their residential and local streets.

"Congratulations to the WestConnex Action Group for organising the forum and the Greens look forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with the community in opposing this wasteful and destructive toll road and directing funds to integrated public transport solutions" she concluded.
