MEDIA RELEASE 15th October 2014
*NT Greens call for Energy Security.*
The NT Greens have called for the removal of disincentives to the adoption
of roof top solar.
Dr Michael Connard, the Greens candidate for the Casuarina by-election,
says the break-up of The Power and Water Authority has left some local
homes which have installed their own solar systems out of pocket.
“As I've walked around the electorate, knocking on doors, I've seen
first-hand that roof top solar is an increasingly popular way for families
to play their part in reducing global carbon emissions.”
“It's also a way of tackling cost of living pressures, but the break-up of
PAWA has limited the capacity of rooftop renewable energy generation to
offset bills. This has particularly affected pensioners”
“I've heard from local residents who say that, since PAWA accounts were
split, the credit from solar generation no longer applies against water
consumption.”
“Instead of providing this kind of perverse disincentive, our government
should be enacting an attractive feed-in tariff. This would encourage and
reward those willing to lead the way in adopting renewable energy
technologies.”
