Gippsland dudded by cuts to Morwell ABC

Gippsland has been dudded by Tony Abbott's lie that there would be 'no cuts to the ABC', with ABC's Morwell office set to be closed down.

"ABC's Morwell office is an invaluable resource to the people of Gippsland," said Australian Greens Senator for Victoria Janet Rice.

"It gives local people a vital platform to inform and be informed about local issues.

"You can't put a price on the service it provides in times of emergency.

"On a personal level, ABC Morwell allowed me to cut my teeth in radio as a forest campaigner in the 1980s , and it's been a vital part of the debate about coal seam gas in Gippsland in recent years.

"We must make it clear to Tony Abbott and the Liberals that these cuts are not welcome in Gippsland."
