Infrastructure Report Rubber Stamps Existing Government Announcements
NSW Greens MP and Transport and Roads Spokesperson, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, has called today's Infrastructure NSW 'State Infrastructure Strategy Update 2014' a rubber stamp of the Government's existing plan for transport and roads, largely made up on expensive and ill-conceived projects such as the WestConnex extensions.
Dr Faruqi said:
"Infrastructure NSW's report merely rubber stamps the Government's previous announcements such as the private sector rip up of the Bankstown rail line or the lines and the map that make up the WestConnex North and South extensions.
"The report does nothing to address the dearth of information in the public arena on these so called high-priority projects, including no details of business cases, traffic projections or cost benefit analysis.
"The light rail in Parramatta and upgrades to our existing rail network are mere promises which could be paid for tomorrow by scrapping the WestConnex toll road, not selling off poles and wires.
"Regional NSW misses out yet again, with the Government thinking that only freight deserves to be on rail, not people.
"The Government needs to stop treating the public with contempt and release the business cases of these projects before the election" Dr Faruqi concluded.
