Greens MP Says Tunnel Motorway Madness in Sydney with Proposed Second Harbour Road Tunnel

NSW Greens MP and Transport Spokesperson, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, has called the latest announcement of a second harbour road tunnel another example of tunnel motorway madness and that the Government is tying itself in knots with announcements.

Dr Faruqi said:

"This latest thought bubble from the Government is for yet another harbour tunnel which again demonstrates this Government's tunnel motorway madness at a cost of tens of billions of dollars that will come at the expense of hospitals, schools and public transport.

"It is pretty clear that the Government is being tied up in knots by all the lines on the map it is desperately dreaming up, without any detailed integrated transport plan.

"Premier Baird needs to understand that transport planning is much more complex than drawing random lines on a map.

"None of the Government's plans, from the North West Rail Link to the WestConnex have stand-alone business plans, with their supposed benefits being reliant on billions of dollars more being spent.

"The Government needs to stop this transport planning on the run and go back to the drawing board to create a real plan for Sydney to tackle congestion, one that improves the current system, expands it to new areas and reduces congestion on the roads for people that have to drive"  Dr Faruqi concluded.
