IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Greens Proud to be a Colour of the Rainbow

Greens MPs and candidates will take part in tomorrow's (Saturday's) Pride March from Victoria Square to Hindley St to open the 2014 Feast Festival.

Greens Gender & Sexuality spokesperson Tammy Franks MLC says amid the celebrations the treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people worldwide remains a challenge and should be front of mind.

"In 2014, around the world, in countries like Russia and Uganda, discriminatory policies continue to oppress and marginalise people based on their sexual orientation and gender," she said.

"This Pride March we stand together shoulder to shoulder once more to oppose these hateful anti-gay laws and campaigns.

"The Greens will continue our push towards true equality for the LGBTI community in every jurisdiction around the country.

"The Greens record on gender and sexuality issues is second to none for a Parliamentary party: every vote, every member, every time voting for equality for the LGBTI community."

South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said the march continues to be a highlight in the LGBTI calendar year after year.

"We've come a long way on LGBTI rights in Australia," Senator Hanson-Young said.

"South Australia led the way in decriminalising homosexuality in 1975 and I'm proud to see that the fight for equality is still going strong in my home state to this very day."

Ms Franks will be joined by Greens candidate for Davenport, Jody Moate, and Greens candidate for Fisher, Malwina Wyra, at the event.

The march commences at 5.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) from Victoria Square, Adelaide.
