GREENS WELCOME CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST OBEID AND MACDONALD
Court attendance notices have been served to former Labor minister Ian Macdonald and Labor powerbroker Eddie Obeid. The pair will face criminal charges for misconduct in public office.
Greens MP Jamie Parker, who has been a vocal supporter of ICAC, welcomed the charges.
"ICAC has received a lot of criticism, but the fact the DPP is pressing charges vindicates the important role of the Commission.
"I welcome these criminal charges and join with the people of NSW in the hope that justice will finally be served.
"The public have had enough of corrupt MPs escaping punishment and it's time justice has a chance to prevail.
"Members of Parliament should not be a protected species and I trust that these charges will start the process of restoring confidence in our democracy."
