[Greens-Media] Greens back bid to stop schools cuts

Statement from Senator Wright on Bill Shorten's school funding private members bill:

Australian Greens spokesperson for schools Senator Penny Wright has confirmed the Australian Greens will support Labor's legislation to stop school education cuts introduced this morning.

"The Australian Greens were always concerned the previous government hadn't done enough to Abbott-proof the Australian Education Act, but we are happy to help them get back on track," Senator Wright said.

"No state which is cutting funding to schools should be getting no-strings-attached gifts from the Abbott Government.

"But Labor's bill should go even further and guarantee that all Federal schools funding is distributed according to need.

"Tony Abbott abandoned everything the Gonski reforms stood for when he dished out billions in Queensland, WA and the NT, without requiring that one cent of this money goes to the kids who need it most."
