Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber said today that his party would use
the state budget to fix the Liberal government's broken promise to fund 1
Million Solar Roofs* in the federal budget.
"In last night's federal budget Prime Minister Tony Abbott broke his
promise for a $100 million per year One Million Roofs Solar Program," said
Greg Barber MLC
"Premier Denis Napthine has no plan for solar and will fail to reach his
party's state target of 5% solar in Victoria by 2020.
"The Liberal Party is taking Australia back to the coal age, but the
Greens have a plan to bring us into the solar century.
"More than 212,000 households in Victoria already have solar PV panels to
cut their electricity bills.
"The Greens will fix the Liberals' broken solar promises.
"Our Victorian Solar Bank will be a profit making, state owned investment
bank, which will invest in solar and renewables in Victoria.
"Victorian Solar Bank is based on the profitable federal Clean Energy
Finance Corporation, a world-leading, profitable green bank which PM Tony
Abbott can?t bring himself to support.
"Hundreds of thousands of Victorians are missing out on cheaper
electricity that would have come from the solar promises made by the
Liberal Party.
"The Liberal Nationals coalition went to the Victorian election in 2010
with a promise to 'Promote the development of solar generation with the
aim of securing 5 per cent of Victoria's energy generation from solar
power by 2020.' "* said Mr Barber.
