Australian Hearing sale must be reconsidered
The Australian Greens said today it is extremely concerning that the Government is talking about selling Australian Hearing as part of cruel budget measures.
"It is a real mistake to sell Australian Hearing, it would be a huge loss for deaf and hearing impaired Australians," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on disabilities said today.
"Australian Hearing provides essential support to deaf and hearing impaired Australians and undertakes world-class research that is vital to improving treatment and support for hearing health issues. They play a crucial role in the ongoing provision of hearing health services.
"Vital organisations like Australian Hearing cannot simply be sold by the Government in order to fix their inflated budget emergency.
"This is a deeply disrespectful decision at a time when the Government should be boosting funding to promote our nation's world-leading health and scientific industries.
"I urge the Government to reconsider this flawed decision," Senator Siewert concluded.
