Greens’ Senate Inquiry revealing the truth about Manus Island

A submission<http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Legal_and_Constitutional_Affairs/Manus_Island/Submissions> to the Senate Inquiry investigating the attacks on the Manus Island detention camp has revealed that up to 40 shots were fired that night, with some shots fired directly at an Australian G4S guard, the Australian Greens have said.

“No one on Manus Island is safe, including the Australian staff, and they must be brought home,” Senator Hanson-Young said.

“This report shows just how callous, poorly informed and deceitful the Immigration Minister was in the days following the attack.

“The Manus Island camp is a toxic, dangerous place and it’s only a matter of time before more people are hurt or killed.

“It’s clear that the chaotic events of that night in February could have been so much worse.

“Australian and PNG authorities are involved in a concerted, coordinated cover up but, as long as brave people who were there are willing to speak up, the truth will come out.

“The Senate Inquiry needs to be able to travel to Manus Island so that it can get to the bottom of what actually happened that night.”
