Public assets sell off: the false economy

The Federal government's attempt to sweeten the sell-off of state-owned assets will still leave the state worse off in the long run, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.   

Dr Kaye said, "The federal government's privatisation sweetener is not that sweet.

"Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey is offering NSW back only some of the state company tax equivalent revenue that the NSW Treasurer collects from publicly owned enterprises.

"Even with the return of some of this lost tax, the state will be much worse off after privatisation of the wires and poles and other income-bearing assets.

"NSW still lose out on the income stream and we still lose out on some of the tax revenue.

"Households will pay more for electricity and the state will end up without a reliable income stream," Dr Kaye said.
