More OSB cruelty, more silence from the Abbott Government

The Greens have called on the Australian Government to be upfront with the Australian people as more evidence emerges of concerning practices that are being carried out under Operation Secret Boats.

"The reports of mistreatment under Operation Sovereign Borders are very concerning and they need to be addressed," the Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

"The Immigration Minster needs to explain exactly how children are being treated and how many have been traumatised in this way.

"I will be questioning Customs and OSB officials on Friday to find out exactly what our Customs and Navy personnel are being made to do.

"The Government must explain its protocols for dealing with children, babies and pregnant women during its dangerous tow-backs.

"It's disappointing that the UN is being forced to investigate Australia, once a world leader in human rights, because of the Government's cruelty and its secrecy."
