Greens call out Wicked Campers' promotion of sexual violence against women
The Australian Greens have put a motion to the Senate to condemn the sexist, misogynistic and racist slogans that Wicked Campers have on their hire vans.
"We're calling out these demeaning slogans that promote sexual violence against women, which tragically is a massive problem in Australia," Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens spokesperson for women, said.
"One in every three Australian women over the age of 15 have experienced violence and one in every five have experienced sexual violence.
"Most often women know their attacker, with one Australian woman a week killed by her partner or ex-partner
"It's absolutely appalling that apparently some derive humour out of violence against women.
"There are plenty of ways to be edgy, cool and even kinky without degrading women.
"I call on the Senate to support our motion this afternoon to send a strong signal that promoting violence against women is unacceptable in Australian society," Senator Waters said.
Senator Waters' motion (below) will be voted on between 3:30 and 4:30 pm AEST today.

I give notice that on the next day of sitting I shall move -

1.    The Senate notes the litany of sexist, misogynistic, and racist slogans which have been used by Wicked Campers on their hire vans including:

a.    "In every princess, there's a little slut who wants to try it just once";

b.    "Fat chicks are harder to kidnap";

c.    "Save a whale ... harpoon a Jap";

d.    "Women are like banks - once you withdraw you lose interest"; and

e.    "A wife: an attachment you screw on the bed to get the housework done".

2.    The Senate condemns the use of such slogans and calls on Wicked Campers to remove slogans which are sexist, misogynistic, or racist from their vans.
