CCA report slams Tony Abbott’s pathetic target – Greens 

The independent Climate Change Authority has today recommended Australia’s emissions reduction target be almost quadrupled to 19 per cent by 2020.

“The Climate Change Authority has made clear that the Abbott government’s pathetic 5% target on global warming will cost Australia dearly,” Greens Leader Christine Milne said.

“The authority has spoken loud and clear: the world is warming, human activities are the cause and Australia needs much more ambitious targets.

“Tony Abbott’s emissions reduction target is so low it will do nothing to help prevent more extreme drought, bushfire and economic ruin fuelled by global warming.

“The Prime Minister’s hollow rhetoric, three-word slogans and the myth of Direct Action have been exposed by the hard realities presented by the Climate Change Authority.

“Tony Abbott keeps beating on about sustainable spending but he has absolutely shut his ears and eyes to the reality of global warming, sustainable living and the risk of a rust bucket economy.

“I welcome the carbon budget approach adopted by the Climate Change Authority. They’ve shown what a valuable contribution the authority has made to climate policy in this country.”
