Gag on Australian staff on Manus Island must be lifted

The Government must lift the gag orders on all Australian staff currently on Manus Island, the Australian Greens have said.

"The gag orders on the Government's Manus Island staff must be lifted so that the truth can come out," the Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

"My office has been inundated with reports from staff on Manus Island who are too scared to speak out publicly because of the Government's gag.

"Their stories paint a clear and cohesive picture of the horrific violence that took place on Monday night and they directly contradict the Minister's version of events.

"The gag must be lifted for medical staff, interpreters or other contracted employees.

"The Minister is using weasel-words and the Government is in cover-up mode, but the truth will come out."
