MEDIA ALERT: Rally against removals 12:30pm NSW Parliament House

Grandmothers against Removals, a newly formed group of regional Aboriginal women, will speak outside the NSW Parliament today against the large numbers of their grandchildren being removed from Aboriginal communities across NSW.

Facts:

*        As at 30 June 1997, the year of Bringing Them Home report, 2,785 Aboriginal children were in out-of-home care<http://www.pc.gov.au/gsp/rogs/2013> across Australia

*        At 30 June 2012, there were 13,299<http://www.aifs.gov.au/cfca/pubs/factsheets/a142092/> Aboriginal children in care- almost a five-fold increase

*        One in 10 Aboriginal children in NSW are in out-of-home care
