Greens slam Abbott for hiding destructive agenda
Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne says the Abbott government's Royal Commission is a cynical ploy to turn the nation against unions and the workers they support, all the while distracting from the real issues set to come before Parliament this week.
"As parliament resumes this week, Tony Abbott will be driving his wrecking ball through serious action on global warming," said Senator Milne.
"We've had heat waves and fires, farmers who are suffering, and we have an Abbott government not only wanting to tear down the price on carbon and the whole framework for dealing with climate change, but actually trying to take us backwards to the old coal-fired economy.
"As the whole country is facing this and thinking about a future with extreme weather events, such as we are currently seeing in Victoria, Tony Abbott is trying to distract the nation from his destructive agenda by announcing this Royal Commission.
"Nobody supports corruption of any kind, and it is the police who should be dealing with any allegations of corruption. Tony Abbott is trying to distract from the climate crisis facing this country. He's running around with scapegoats."
