Greens support $90 000 crowd fund campaign to save Margaret River’s Mowen Forest
Media statement, Friday, 5 December 2014

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren has today welcomed the launch of a crowd-funded campaign that will aim to raise enough funds to match the slim profit margin proposed by the State Government to log 1600 hectares of native forest in Margaret River.

“I call on the Minister to ensure that logging ceases in the Mowen Forest until the Standing Committee of Environment and Public Affairs has concluded its inquiries. I also urge the public to donate to this good cause, if successful Mowen forest will be safe forevermore”.

“The campaign has increased in momentum as the loggers draw ever closer. Recent questions I asked in Parliament revealed a slim profit margin for the logging, which has further ignited community opposition”, said Ms MacLaren.

“The willingness by the Margaret River community to crowd-fund $90,000 to save their forests gives some indication of how important forests are.  The public are serious about protecting Mowen Forest from logging and have said ‘enough is enough’. Mowen Forest is worth more standing than as firewood, woodchips and charcoal that generate slim profits for our Government.

“I congratulate Save Mowen Forest campaigners for their dedication in preserving native South West forest once and for all.

“The local community see that logging old Jarrah and Marri trees for a slim profit margin is offensive and nonsensical.
