Greens join forum as Busselton community grapples with coastal impact of Climate Change
Media statement, Friday 29 November, 2013.

Tonight Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren will shine a light on how communities can be prepared for coastal impacts like sea level rise and more severe and frequent storms at a forum in Busselton, a place likely to be confronted by these impacts in our lifetimes.

"I will be discussing how integrated management, partnerships, community involvement and the inclusion of grass roots organisations can prepare for climate change in the Geographe Bay Area.

"From a Greens perspective being prepared for changes is a positive approach and not doom and gloom".

Having introduced a coastal planning and protection bill, Ms MacLaren is asking communities to help lobby the Planning Minister to support the Bill.

"We know that the Minister believes his Department is doing enough and that the current system prepares us for potential changes. It simply isn't true. Around the world communities are grappling with new planning rules and decisions like retreating from the coast while our Government continues to approve new developments in risky areas.

"The Greens want to see future generations enjoy the coastal lifestyle that we love today, so today's planning decisions must be well informed".

The Public information evening: Climate Change Adaptation in Geographe Bay runs form 5.45pm-9pm on Friday 29th November at Busselton Community Resource Centre.
