Fresh blows to Waubra Foundation claims: Greens

Australian Greens health spokesperson, Dr Richard Di Natale, today called on the Charities Commission and Tax Office to follow the lead of the South Australian EPA and VCAT in following the science when it comes to the health impacts of wind farms.

"In the last 24 hours the South Australian EPA has found that wind turbine syndrome doesn't exist, VCAT has declared that there's no evidence to support it and now it's time for the Charities Commission and ATO to follow suit," said Senator Di Natale.

"The Waubra Foundation is currently classified as a health promotion charity because it spreads information about an illness, but that illness doesn't exist.

"If a few people from the fast food industry founded an organisation that pedalled misinformation about a made-up condition called 'Fresh Food Syndrome' they wouldn't get tax concessions as a charity.

"I have lodged a formal complaint with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission about the Waubra Foundation's tax status and I look forward to hearing the outcome of a review.

"There is simply no evidence to support the existence of Wind Turbine Syndrome and that should be reflected in both planning and tax policy."
