[Greens-Media] Media Alert: Pop-up smoking restaurant in city park - Tomorrow 9:30am.

What: A pop up restaurant, with diners and waitress, filled with smoke. 
Victoria is the only state in the nation that continues to permit smoking 
in outdoor dining and drinking areas, which can be up to 75% enclosed by 
walls and ceiling. 

Who: 
1. Colleen Hartland, Victorian Greens Spokesperson on Health. Colleen has 
legislation before the Victorian parliament to ban smoking in outdoor 
dining and drinking areas. 
2. Associate Professor Dr Louis Irving of the Peter MacCallum Cancer 
Centre and the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

When: Tomorrow 9:30am Friday 31st May - World No Tobacco Day.

Where: The small park on the corner of Macarthur Street and Spring Street, 
Melbourne. 

“Every other state and territory in Australia already has, or has 
committed to have, smoke-free dining and drinking areas, and 70% of 
Victorians are in favour of the ban. Yet Victorians continue to have smoke 
with their dinner” said Colleen Hartland. 
"We're here today to highlight the situation that Victorians face every 
day - eating and drinking areas can be up to 75% enclosed and still allow 
smoking. Diners and restaurant workers are exposed to cancer causing 
smoke."

“The doctor's orders* are to ban smoking in outdoor dining and drinking 
areas. In the absence of any action from the Premier I will proceed with 
my Smoke-free law on 12 June 2013."
 
"I call on all Members of Parliament to protect the health of Victorians 
and support this Bill – it’s the doctor’s orders” said Ms Hartland.
