Greens welcome launch of Kimberley IPAs

Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert has welcomed the launch yesterday of four Indigenous Protected Areas in the Kimberley.

"It was a great pleasure to be the Ranger Forum yesterday for the official launch of the IPAs and to speak to people about the great potential of this program for the region," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Issues said today.

"These IPAs will make a huge contribution to the future of the Kimberley, through the maintenance of culture and connection to country, as well as boosting the protection provided to the region's unique environment.

"This launch will lead to the development of job opportunities and stronger, sustainable local economic growth.

"It is exciting that so many people particularly young people in the Kimberley are keen to become rangers. It is a sign that this program has a strong future, which needs to be matched with ongoing support from the Government," Senator Siewert concluded.
