Insecure work inquiry – Bandt and NTEU

Greens Deputy Leader Adam Bandt will join Grahame McCulloch, General Secretary, National Tertiary Education Union, and casual academics Sharni Chan and Janin Bredehoeft for a media conference ahead of hearings into Mr Bandt’s the Fair Work Amendment (Tackling Job Insecurity) Bill 2012.

Public hearings on the bill take place from 1-3pm, Committee Room G6, Parliament of Victoria, 55 St Andrews Place, East Melbourne. Grahame McCulloch and Sharni Chan will speak to the hearing on behalf of the National Tertiary Education Union.

Higher education has one of the most casualised workforces in Australia with just over a third of employees in universities and research institutes enjoying the ordinary entitlements of continuing employment. Half of undergraduate teaching is now done by casuals.
