Greens welcome victory for paramedics as EMSPA registered.
Media Release - 21 May 2013
The Greens NSW have welcomed the decision of Justice Haylan to register the Emergency Medical Services Protection Association (EMSPA) as a union representing paramedics, overcoming expensive technical legal challenges from the Health Services Union (HSU).
Greens NSW Industrial Relations spokesperson David Shoebridge said:
"This is a great win for paramedics, and the Greens congratulate EMSPA on the tenacity they have shown in their struggle to be registered.
"Now it is registered EMSPA can really get on with the job of ensuring that paramedics are respected as an emerging profession.
"EMSPA has its work cut out for it grappling with a range of industrial issues including allowing paramedics to choose to work reasonable hours and fighting the O'Farrell government's unfair 2.5% wage cap.
"We hope that this decisive judgement, rejecting the HSU's technical legal challenges, will be the end of legal proceedings so that members' money from both the HSU and EMSPA can be redirected to progressing their member's industrial rights," Mr Shoebridge said.
