Greens call on Government to fix health crisis in Fleurieu

The Australian Greens have called on the Government to step in and fix an impending healthcare crisis in the state's south after 40 GPs resigned in the Fleurieu and called on Tony Abbott to outline what he would do to fix the situation if elected as Prime Minister.

"Every measure must be taken to avert this impending crisis and I call on the Federal Government to give a guarantee to Goolwa, Middleton and Victor Harbor residents that they won't be left stranded," South Australian Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young said.

"I also want to know what Tony Abbott would do if he becomes Prime Minister.

"Tony Abbott is still failing to reveal his plans for regional hospitals and South Australian communities deserve to know what he will do.

"This crisis has to be sorted out before people's health is put at risk.

"The Senate passed a motion moved by the Greens this week which recognised the crippling shortage of nurses and midwives in Australia.

"The people of the Fleurieu have already been hit by a severe lack of midwives in the area and now they are at risk of losing even more essential services."
