Greens essential third voice in election debate
The Australian Greens are calling on Labor to hurry up and deliver on its promise to establish a leader's debate commission before the federal election.
"I want to know why the Prime Minister hasn't delivered on her agreement with the Greens to set-up a commission to give all parties an opportunity to be part of election debates," Greens Leader Christine Milne said.
"There are only 123 days until the election and there is still no leader's debate commission.
"Prime Minister Gillard said she would sort this out before the election period, so when will we see some action?
"In the past we've witnessed the farce of the two old parties making all the decisions about the format, timing and rules for election debates.
"Australians deserve to hear from all political leaders in these debates, which should be a genuine, independent investigation of the parties' promises.
"The Greens are the third biggest party in the country and deserve a place in the election debates."
Senator Milne will move a motion in the Senate today calling on Labor to work with all parties to urgently establish the debate commission.
