Greens NSW MP David Shoebridge is set to present a petition with over 100,000 signatures to the NSW Upper House, a number more than four times as high as the total number of signatures on all petitions presented in the NSW Upper House in all of 2012.
The presentation of the petition will be followed by a brief debate on the issue of forced organ harvesting.
WHEN: 9.45 - 11am Thursday 9 May
WHERE: NSW Legislative Council, NSW Parliament House, Macquarie St Sydney
WHO: Greens NSW MP David Shoebridge, members of the public in the public gallery, cross-party members of the Legislative Council.
The petition calls for law reform to make it illegal for someone from NSW to go overseas and receive an organ which has been removed forcibly or unethically trafficked. 50-100 people who have signed the petition are expected to be in attendance.
After the presentation of the petition, NSW Parliament will consider a motion calling on Sydney University withdraw the Honorary Professorship from the Chinese transplant surgeon Huang Jiefu in light of the serious concerns about his involvement in forced organ harvesting.
