Spotlight on Abbott to keep carbon price’s tax-free threshold

Please find below the Australian Greens response to the announcement by Minister Combet this morning about the deferral of the 2015 increase in the tax-free threshold linked to the carbon price.
“It’s logical that post the fixed price period, future household compensation will reflect the carbon price movement," Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

“But the real question is not when will the tax-free threshold be increased, but whether as Prime Minister Tony Abbott will slash the tax-free threshold to $6,000 and reverse pension increases.

“The Greens in the balance of power will stand up against the destructive excesses of an Abbott government wanting to slash both energy efficiency programs, and the renewable energy target to way below the current 41,000 gigawatt hour goal.

“Only the Greens will challenge Labor to maintain a backbone on carbon pricing beyond the election.”
