Greens call for Sydney Water to pay up for pipe repairs

Media release: 5 May 2013

The O'Farrell government should order Sydney Water to stop demanding home
owners repair pipes and connections that are not on their own property,
according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.

Dr Kaye said: "Home owners should not have to pay for sewerage and water
supply repairs that are not their fault and not on their property.

"Services Minister Greg Pearce should step in and stop Sydney Water dumping
what should be their own costs onto consumers.

"The contracts should be amended and the Minister should make sure that no
one faces the massive costs of repairing pipes and connections that are not
under their own land.

"It is unreasonable to expose a home owner to risks of assets that are not
under their control.

"Sydney Water must be forced to take full responsibility for maintaining
their assets in good condition and fixing them when they are damaged," Dr
Kaye said.
